Both qualifications are necessary for a judge, and Ben Clayton has them both.
Ben is committed to honesty and impartiality in hearing and deciding legal matters brought before him. He will be guided by the laws of our state and the Scriptural mandate stated in Leviticus 19:15 (ESV): “You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.” Ben’s commitment to serving the Lord, upholding the law, strengthening families and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Washington and St. Tammany Parishes will guide him in his role as district court judge.
Ben and his wife, Lisa, have been married to each other for almost 41 years. They are blessed to have five adult children and nine grandchildren.
During the past 39 years Ben has been a resident at different times of both St. Tammany and Washington Parishes, and he has operated a law office in both parishes. He understands the needs of the citizens of both parishes.

EXPERIENCE
- Seasoned attorney with 39+ years of experience handling and trying legal matters.
- Has tried cases in federal and state courts, the Louisiana Office of Workers’ Compensation, United States Department of Labor and various city courts. He has represented clients before several appellate courts and the Louisiana Supreme Court. Ben is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court .
- Owned and managed his own law firm for 26 years.
- Experience with handling criminal and civil matters, child in need of care cases, personal injury matters, contract disputes, wills, successions, disability claims, interdictions, business matters and constitutional issues. He has experience trying cases as both a plaintiff and a defense attorney.
- Experience with juveniles: camp counselor for Boy Scouts of America at Camp Salmen in Slidell for 6 years, prison ministry at the juvenile detention center in Jefferson Parish, pastoring and training inner city youth, and moot court coach for local high school.
- Past president of the Slidell Bar Association
- Member of Louisiana State Bar Association House of Delegates since 2016
- Allied attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom
- Member of Louisiana Association of Christian Lawyers, 22nd JDC Bar Association and Slidell Bar Association
- Ordained minister in a non-denominational church
EDUCATION
- Graduated from University in New Orleans with a B.A. in History in 1980.
- Received his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University School of Law in 1986.
